She has dominated tennis courts across the globe, capturing an astonishing 23 Grand Slam singles titles and four Olympic gold medals during a legendary career that redefined the sport. But when the superstar athlete is not competing, traveling, or managing her various business ventures, where does Serena Williams call home? As it turns out, the tennis icon has curated a remarkable real estate portfolio over the years, buying, renovating, and selling a series of high-end properties spanning from New York City to Paris, and heavily concentrated in her favored home state of Florida and Southern California.
To help outfit and transform several of her residences, Serena famously enlisted the expertise of her sister, fellow tennis champion and accomplished interior designer Venus Williams. Recognizing the distinct boundaries of their professional talents, Serena has often spoken candidly about relying on her sibling’s creative vision. "You have to know your lane. I’m really good at playing tennis; I’m not as good at interiors. But I was able to learn through just watching Venus," Serena noted when Architectural Digest visited her expansive Florida estate in 2021. Over the course of three years, the sisters collaborated on a massive, total renovation of a 14,500-square-foot Spanish Mediterranean–style mansion that Serena originally purchased in 2017, turning it into a hyper-modern masterpiece while leaning into a deep-rooted family partnership.
Co-Owned Florida Dwelling
Long before she was managing multimillion-dollar custom builds on her own, Serena and Venus established their early real estate footprint together as their historic tennis careers were just beginning to take off. In 1998, the sisters pooled their resources to purchase a one-acre lot in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, for $525,000. Over the next two years, they dedicated themselves to custom-building an 8,500-square-foot house tailored to their rising status.
The sprawling residence featured six bedrooms—including a dedicated main suite for each sister—alongside multiple lounge areas, a private home theater, an eat-in kitchen, and a resort-style backyard complete with a swimming pool, spa, gazebo, and private lake. Situated within the prestigious, gated BallenIsles Country Club community, the property served as a foundational home base for the siblings during their early years on the professional tour. They eventually parted ways with the property in early 2019, selling the home for $2.3 million.
Manhattan Apartment
Continuing their early real estate investments together, the sisters expanded their portfolio northward in 2005 with the purchase of a Midtown Manhattan loft apartment. Spanning approximately 1,800 square feet, the property cost the tennis stars about $1.3 million.
The unit featured classic loft characteristics, including striking oak floors, lofty 12-foot ceilings, and a long, open layout. However, the space remained largely untouched for years; in 2007, Venus revealed to New York magazine that they had not yet furnished the apartment. While the space was frequently photographed empty and configured as a single-bedroom unit, the original listing noted that its flexible footprint could easily be converted into a two- or three-bedroom home. It remains unclear whether the tennis icons ever truly lived in the Manhattan outpost full-time. Ultimately, the sisters sold the apartment in 2015 for $2.1 million.
Bel-Air Estate
As her career reached unprecedented heights, Serena sought out premier properties on the West Coast, establishing a significant presence in the Los Angeles luxury market. In 2006, she purchased a sprawling estate in Bel-Air for a little over $6.6 million.
Set on a lushly landscaped 2.7-acre plot, the property spanned approximately 6,100 square feet and included six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and expansive green gardens. While the Mediterranean-style home notably lacked a tennis court—allowing the athlete to completely disconnect from her demanding professional life—it came fully equipped with luxury amenities, including a dedicated hair and makeup salon, an expansive dressing room within the main suite, and a shaded poolside loggia designed for effortless outdoor entertaining. After owning the property for more than a decade, Serena listed the home for nearly $12 million before ultimately selling it in 2019 for $8.1 million.
Parisian Pied-à-Terre
For a professional tennis player whose calendar revolves around the sport’s premier international tournaments, having an overseas outpost is practically a professional necessity. When competing at the French Open became an annual fixture in her career, Serena decided to put down permanent roots in the French capital. In 2007, she closed on a chic two-bedroom pied-à-terre located in Paris’s historic 7th arrondissement.
"I really fell in love with Paris six years ago," Serena shared with USA Today in 2013, reflecting on her deep connection to the city. While the exact purchase price of the apartment was never publicly disclosed, the athlete gave fans a rare glimpse inside the home during a 2016 video tour. She highlighted the property’s sophisticated neutral palette, featuring cool gray floors contrasted against striking black doors, alongside extensive interior renovations she spearheaded. "I redid the whole kitchen to make a fun space," she explained, drawing attention to the adjacent office space positioned perpendicularly to the kitchen area.
Profitable Florida Land
Not all of Serena’s real estate ventures involved building permanent homesteads; some served as savvy financial investments. In 2013, she paid $4.12 million for a 2.4-acre vacant plot of land situated within Jupiter, Florida’s ultra-exclusive, private Bear’s Club golf community.

Rather than developing the pristine parcel into a custom estate, the athlete held onto the land before ultimately deciding to flip it for a substantial profit. In May 2018, she offloaded the vacant lot to a corporate executive for $6 million, successfully capitalizing on the high demand for premier real estate in the affluent South Florida enclave.
Georgian-Style Palm Beach Gardens Home
The magnetic pull of the Sunshine State continued to draw Serena back, leading her to acquire another newly constructed property in May 2015. Located inside Steeplechase, a secure gated community in Palm Beach Gardens, she purchased a five-bedroom, Georgian-style mansion for $2.5 million.
The newly built estate spanned more than 5,600 square feet of interior living space and featured high-end finishes, including gleaming marble floors and a luxurious primary suite. The residence backed onto a private, lushly landscaped backyard designed for seamless indoor-outdoor living, complete with an outdoor kitchen, a sprawling terrace, and a large swimming pool and spa overlooking a tranquil canal. After enjoying the property for five years, Serena sold the home at the end of 2020 for approximately $2.8 million.
Custom Miami-Area Mansion
Just north of Miami, Serena found what would eventually evolve into one of her primary, permanent residences—a project that represented a true, yearslong labor of love. She reportedly paid $5.7 million for the property in 2017 and immediately embarked on a comprehensive, three-year renovation. To bring her vision to life, she worked in close collaboration with V Starr, the interior design firm founded by her sister Venus.
The massive, 14,500-square-foot Spanish Mediterranean–style mansion was completely overhauled into a hyper-modern sanctuary. The revamped residence boasts an impressive suite of custom amenities, including a professional-grade home gym, a relaxing sauna, a sophisticated wine cellar, a resort-style infinity pool, a dedicated karaoke room, and a staggering 620-square-foot custom closet.
Every corner of the home was tailored to family life, including a whimsical bedroom designed for her daughter, Olympia. The space features a pink, custom-built castle bed outfitted with an integrated indoor slide and a one-of-a-kind, blown-glass chandelier created by artist Josh Fradis. "She goes down the slide every night, while we’re thinking, man, we shouldn’t have done that, because now at bedtime, she just wants to slide," Serena told Architectural Digest. "Pero whatever makes her happy makes me happy."
Notably absent from the sprawling estate is a tennis court. When asked about the omission, Serena offered a simple explanation: she preferred to keep her professional life entirely separate from her personal sanctuary. "I wanted to separate home from work," she explained. "I love being home. When you have our job, you never get time to relax. So it’s good for me to be able to sit still and not do anything."
Spanish-Style Beverly Hills Home
Continuing her real estate footprint in Southern California, Serena and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, teamed up in 2017 to purchase a Spanish-style property in Beverly Hills. Adding a five-bedroom, seven-bathroom home to their portfolio for a price tag of $6.7 million, the couple secured a residence defined by an airy open floor plan and a spacious main bedroom suite featuring its own private fireplace and folding glass doors that opened directly onto a private bathroom terrace.
The home offered an abundance of wellness and entertainment amenities, including a dedicated game room, a massage room, a quiet yoga room, and a temperature-controlled wine cellar. Eager to explore new residential chapters, Serena and Ohanian listed the property in 2021 with an asking price of $7.5 million, though public records indicate they ultimately pulled the listing later that same year.
Waterfront Estate in Jupiter, Florida
South Florida remains a definitive anchor in Serena’s real estate strategy. In September 2020, she was identified as the anonymous buyer behind the acquisition of a massive waterfront estate in Jupiter, Florida, which was previously owned by former St. Louis Cardinals baseball player Yadier Molina.
Spanning 10,433 square feet, Serena reportedly purchased the property through an LLC for $8 million. The expansive compound sits on more than four acres of prime land and features eight bedrooms, seven and a half bathrooms, a swimming pool, a separate guesthouse, and nearly 300 feet of scenic riverfront access. The outdoor grounds were heavily tailored to athletic pursuits, featuring a combined tennis and basketball court alongside a private baseball diamond. However, the existing structure’s days were numbered; shortly after the transaction closed, official notices filed in October 2020 outlined plans to demolish the existing residence, signaling the athlete’s intent to clear the lot and construct yet another custom-built estate tailored to her family’s evolving lifestyle.
