Hasbro Expands Wizards of the Coast Footprint with New Montreal Studio Focused on Dungeons & Dragons

Hasbro is making a major push to expand the digital presence of its iconic tabletop roleplaying game, announcing the opening of a new Wizards of the Coast studio in Montreal dedicated entirely to developing content for the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.

The strategic expansion represents a significant scaling up of Hasbro’s digital gaming capabilities in Canada. According to company executives, the new studio is poised to become the largest concentration of video game development talent within the Hasbro organization, leveraging the deep talent pool available in Montreal’s thriving tech and gaming sector to shape the future of the brand.

“This studio will grow to be the largest concentration of video game talent at Hasbro, built on one of the world’s deepest game development ecosystems,” Dan Ayoub, head of Dungeons & Dragons and head of Wizards of the Coast Canada, said in a statement. “We’re here to create the next generation of digital game titles, and to do it with the incredible talent this city has to offer.”

Wizards of the Coast is no stranger to the Canadian creative hub. The subsidiary has maintained a steady presence in Montreal since 2019, when it originally acquired Invoke Studios. The launch of this newly expanded studio builds directly on that foundation, positioning the company to accelerate its ambitious digital roadmap for Dungeons & Dragons and capitalize on the surging popularity of fantasy gaming experiences across global markets.

The studio opening arrives on the heels of a broader wave of digital announcements from the Hasbro subsidiary. Earlier this year, Wizards of the Coast revealed a comprehensive slate of new initiatives designed to usher in a fresh era for fans. Among these developments are the upcoming November launch of Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft, a dedicated new mobile experience tailored for D&D Beyond, and a series of wide-ranging updates slated for deployment across the brand’s diverse digital and video game distribution platforms.

Company leadership points to sustained consumer enthusiasm as a primary driver behind these ongoing investments. During a recent earnings call discussing Hasbro’s second-quarter financial performance, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks highlighted the robust health of the tabletop and digital ecosystem.

“D&D is actually performing quite well — particularly D&D Beyond,” Cocks told analysts during the call.

That strong digital performance has translated directly into broader corporate success. During the second quarter, Hasbro reported a net revenue increase of over 16%, bringing total revenue to $1.1 billion. This growth was largely propelled by the Wizards of the Coast and digital gaming segments, which posted a remarkable 27% increase year over year, cementing the division’s status as a critical engine for the toy and game giant’s overall financial health.

The establishment of the Montreal studio also follows other sweeping logistical and corporate shifts for Hasbro. Last year, the company announced that it was relocating its long-standing Rhode Island toy and board game operations to Boston. The new corporate hub, situated in the city’s vibrant Seaport District, now serves as the primary headquarters for Hasbro’s toys, board games, and licensing businesses, as well as the majority of its core corporate services.

With its physical corporate footprint centralized in Boston and its digital video game development apparatus anchoring deeply in Montreal, Hasbro is positioning its premier fantasy properties for long-term expansion. As the new Wizards of the Coast studio begins operations in Canada, fans and industry observers alike will be watching closely to see how the company translates its massive tabletop legacy into the next generation of digital entertainment.
