Having welcomed a daughter, River, two years ago, Viall and his wife, Natalie Joy Viall, expanded their family significantly this past July with the arrival of twin infants. Viall, who grew up in Wisconsin as the second oldest of 11 siblings in a blue-collar, lower-middle-class household, is now experiencing the chaotic and joyful reality of managing a rapidly growing modern family while balancing multiple demanding careers in entertainment and digital media.

Reflecting on the transition from one child to three in the span of just two pregnancies, Viall opens up about the unexpected realities of twin parenthood, the partnership he shares with his wife, and how fatherhood has reshaped his perspective on life, stress, and professional ambition.

Navigating the Realities of Twin Parenthood

When expecting multiples, prospective parents are often greeted with an influx of cautionary warnings from friends and acquaintances. Viall admits that he and Natalie received their fair share of unsolicited, anxiety-inducing predictions before the twins arrived.

"When you tell people you’re expecting… people are more prone to just kind of, I call doomsday kind of advice," Viall explains, recalling the barrage of warnings about sleepless nights and endless stress. Yet, once the infants arrived, the reality proved to be vastly different from the gloomy forecasts. "And then it happens, and you’re so happy and everything feels like a blessing."

While acknowledging the physical demands of caring for newborns—including routine feedings and multiple middle-of-the-night wake-up calls—Viall maintains a remarkably optimistic outlook. He describes the experience not as an ordeal, but simply as a "BOGO"—a buy-one-get-one-free scenario that brought double the joy.

He is also quick to credit his wife for shouldering the immense physical toll of carrying twins throughout the pregnancy. Now, looking at their household, he marvels at the efficiency of their family growth. "It’s been really exciting to just be like, ‘Oh, we already have three kids, and it only took two pregnancies,’" he says.

A Hands-On Approach Rooted in Childhood Teamwork

Viall’s approach to parenting is deeply rooted in the cooperative dynamic he observed growing up in a large family. With 10 brothers and sisters, his childhood household operated out of necessity as a collective unit. His mother stayed home to raise the children while his father worked blue-collar jobs, but the day-to-day management of the household was defined by shared responsibility rather than rigid gender roles.

"My mom did a lot of the traditional day-to-day keeping up the house, but my dad would often make dinner. My mom sometimes would mow the lawn. It was just more like all hands on deck type of thing, and you just do things as a team," Viall recalls.

That foundational lesson in teamwork is a principle he and Natalie implemented in their relationship long before they became parents. Today, as they balance domestic life alongside collaborative professional ventures—such as co-hosting their popular relationship advice podcast The Viall Files and the series Age of Attraction—their domestic routine relies on clear communication and a divide-and-conquer strategy.

Viall describes himself as a hyper-involved, hands-on father who actively seeks out ways to lighten his wife’s load. Whether it is managing household chores—joking that while he is seemingly "allergic to laundry," he gladly handles the dishes—or stepping in to give Natalie a break when postpartum pressures mount, Viall views his primary role as being a supportive partner and cheerleader.

Reclaiming Childhood Simplicity for the Next Generation

In contemplating what he hopes to pass down to his children, Viall looks both to cherished family history and broader cultural concerns about modern childhood. A few years ago, Viall managed to buy back his grandfather’s lake house in Wisconsin, a property that served as his personal sanctuary during childhood before it was sold following his grandfather’s passing when Viall was in the fourth grade.

The loss of that property was a significant childhood heartbreak, one that haunted him with recurring dreams well into his adult years. Now, being able to reclaim that space means providing his own children with the same deep connection to nature, unstructured outdoor play, and imaginative freedom that defined his early years.

Viall expresses concern over how quickly the world is changing for children today, noting the contrast between his own youth—spent riding bikes and playing outside—and the digital distractions facing younger generations. Citing cultural discussions surrounding the impact of technology and smartphones on youth, Viall hopes his children will embrace the physical world.

"I’m really hoping my kids get to embrace the world and get outside and play make-believe with their friends and things like that," he notes, emphasizing that the family’s lake house retreat in Wisconsin will serve as a vital tool to encourage outdoor exploration and timeless childhood memories.

Finding Balance and Purpose Amid High-Stress Careers

Operating in the high-pressure entertainment industry naturally comes with anxiety, tight schedules, and constant connectivity. However, Viall credits fatherhood with providing an essential grounding force that helps quiet professional stress.

While individual career milestones and public accolades are rewarding, Viall views parenthood as the ultimate source of enduring purpose. Even during the exhausting 2:00 a.m. wake-up calls, the clear motivation behind the late-night care provides a profound sense of accomplishment.

To ensure work never eclipses family life, Viall and Natalie have established intentional boundaries at home. Natalie has instituted a policy ensuring that when Viall walks through the front door after a day of working remotely or recording media projects, he immediately puts his phone away to give his undivided attention to his toddler, River.

"Even if it’s for a few minutes, even if I still have some work left to do, I never walk in on the phone and I’m not giving her my undivided attention," Viall shares, praising the practice as a vital way to remain present.

While Viall admits to occasionally unwinding with a video game—a pastime he approaches with strict moderation so it never interferes with his responsibilities as a partner and father—his primary focus remains firmly fixed on his growing family. As he continues to balance public-facing media ventures with the intimate, everyday moments of raising three young children under three, Viall finds that discussing the joys and challenges of fatherhood has become one of his most fulfilling daily roles.
