Authentic Brands Group has officially completed its acquisition of iconic denim label Lee, adding the historic brand to its expansive global portfolio and setting the stage for a major multi-category retail expansion.
The transaction, which was initially announced in May and officially closed on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, could reach a total valuation of up to $1 billion depending on the brand’s performance metrics moving forward. The high-profile deal marks another significant milestone for Authentic Brands Group as the company continues to aggressively scale its presence in the global apparel and lifestyle sectors through strategic brand management and targeted acquisitions.

With the ink dry on the agreement, Authentic has already lined up a robust network of key operating partners to manage and grow the Lee brand across major international markets. In the United States and Canada, operations will be spearheaded by One Jeanswear Group. Across Europe, the brand will be managed by Experience Group, while HiMaxx will take the helm in China, and Union Group will oversee operations in Mexico. These strategic partnerships are designed to ensure seamless market penetration and localized execution as Authentic prepares to scale the brand’s footprint.
Beyond its traditional core denim offerings, Authentic Brands Group outlined ambitious plans to expand Lee into adjacent lifestyle categories. Specifically, the brand management firm intends to build upon Lee’s rich heritage of denim craftsmanship, innovation, and authentic American style by pushing the label deeper into activewear and workwear segments. By leveraging its extensive network of licensing partners and retail channels, Authentic aims to transform Lee into a comprehensive lifestyle brand capable of capturing a wider demographic of consumers in an increasingly competitive retail landscape.
Founded in 1889, Lee stands as one of the most enduring and recognizable names in American fashion, currently generating roughly $1.5 billion in annual global sales. The addition of Lee places the brand alongside a formidable stable of peers within the Authentic portfolio. The brand management firm’s roster already features heavyweight names such as Lucky Brand, Vince, Eddie Bauer, and Billabong.

The acquisition of Lee also follows a series of other massive structural moves by Authentic Brands Group over the past couple of years. Earlier in 2026, the firm made headlines by acquiring a majority stake in the intellectual property of Guess. Prior to that, in 2025, Authentic successfully closed a high-profile deal to purchase the iconic Dockers brand from Levi Strauss & Co. These strategic maneuvers underscore Authentic’s ongoing strategy of consolidating major heritage apparel brands under its centralized management umbrella to maximize global licensing opportunities, digital reach, and supply chain efficiencies.
For Lee’s former parent company, Kontoor Brands, the completion of the sale marks a major pivot in its corporate strategy. Following the divestiture of Lee, Kontoor Brands now maintains a much leaner portfolio consisting of just two primary brands: Wrangler and Helly Hansen.
Scott Baxter, Chief Executive Officer of Kontoor Brands, addressed the completion of the transaction in a formal statement, expressing appreciation for the teams that built Lee into a global powerhouse while emphasizing the strategic financial benefits of the sale for the remaining corporate entities.

"We are deeply grateful to the Lee team for their incredible dedication and contributions over the years," Baxter said. "At the same time, this transaction better positions our remaining businesses for the future. We now have a more focused, growth-oriented portfolio positioned to deliver stronger returns for our shareholders."
The divestiture allows Kontoor Brands to reallocate resources, streamline operations, and concentrate its capital investments on accelerating the growth of Wrangler and Helly Hansen. Meanwhile, the transition of Lee to Authentic Brands Group opens a new chapter for the 137-year-old denim maker, providing the brand with the backing and operational infrastructure needed to pursue its next phase of global expansion and lifestyle diversification.
