As Target presses forward with an expansive and multifaceted turnaround strategy, the retail giant is continuing to arm its in-store employees with advanced technological tools designed to streamline operations and vastly improve the overall shopping experience.
The nationwide mass retailer gathered valuable operational input and direct feedback from store employees across 50 locations to pinpoint specific workflow bottlenecks and areas ripe for improvement. Consequently, Target has implemented significant upgrades to its proprietary store operations app, known as myDay. The refined application is now better equipped to accurately assess real-time inventory needs, track team member availability, and project precise sales forecasting data, according to an official company announcement published Wednesday. The newly updated app intelligently groups similar tasks together and dynamically prioritizes employee to-do lists based on immediate operational urgency and business value.

As part of this technological refresh, Target has officially launched the myDay Leader View feature. This innovative addition introduces a highly personalized home screen that highlights critical store updates, metrics, and resources. Team leaders can now seamlessly tailor this interface based on their specific departmental roles and daily responsibilities. For instance, users can easily pin key performance metrics directly to their home screen, ranging from detailed shelf-stocking rates to comprehensive fulfillment data regarding online pickup orders, allowing them to maintain a sharper focus on their primary departmental objectives.
Additionally, the company has integrated a sophisticated function known as Scan to Divert directly into the myDay app. Developed specifically to make inventory stocking far more seamless and efficient, this function assists frontline employees in making rapid, data-backed decisions. When scanning newly arrived products, staff members can instantly determine whether the merchandise should be taken straight to the sales floor to fill empty shelves or remain securely stored in the backroom, depending on current consumer demand and spatial availability across the store.
The implementation of the Scan to Divert feature has already yielded tangible financial results for the corporation. According to Target’s corporate post, the function has successfully contributed $25 million in measurable value, capital that the company intends to reinvest directly back into enhancing the customer guest experience and optimizing overall store operations.

Looking ahead, Target plans to roll out a series of upcoming updates to the myDay application. These future enhancements will introduce advanced capabilities such as the ability to digitally assign out tasks to specific team members, share detailed shift handoff notes, and gain direct access to powerful artificial intelligence-enabled insights, among other operational improvements.
These digital enhancements arrive as Target navigates a broader corporate evolution. Under the leadership of CEO Michael Fiddelke, the Minneapolis-based retailer has been investing heavily in revitalizing the physical store experience. These strategic investments are heavily concentrated on technological modernization and the ongoing strengthening of digital fulfillment capabilities across the entire fleet of stores.
Maintaining adequate and reliable inventory levels on sales floors has been a paramount area of focus for Target’s executive leadership team over recent quarters, as they seek to eliminate friction points for shoppers and drive steady traffic growth.

Addressing financial analysts during the company’s second-quarter earnings call in August, Chief Operating Officer Lisa Roath emphasized the tangible progress the retailer has made regarding product availability. Discussing the crucial late-summer retail period, Roath highlighted inventory management as a major win for the enterprise.
If I look at back-to-school specifically, one area of improvement that we’re really proud of is our in-stock position, Roath told analysts during the conference call. We know that’s the time of the year where if you’re a guest coming in, you want to be able to find every item on your child’s list. And this year, we were able to deliver meaningful improvements in inventory availability on all of the top items across that list.
By coupling these logistical victories with intuitive, employee-facing software updates like the revised myDay app and its upcoming artificial intelligence capabilities, Target aims to maintain its inventory momentum while equipping its workforce to navigate the complexities of modern omnichannel retail operations.
