Monday Racing Preview: Potters Charm Headlines Busy Card Across Newcastle, Worcester and Yarmouth

Racing enthusiasts are in for a busy and action-packed day of action this Monday, with high-quality fixtures coming live from Newcastle, Worcester, and Yarmouth on Sky Sports Racing. From intriguing chasing debuts over the jumps to competitive nursery handicaps and developmental novice stakes on the flat, the afternoon and evening cards offer plenty of quality for punters and racing fans to analyze across all three venues.

3.07 Worcester – Potters Charm makes chasing debut

The feature attraction at Worcester comes in the Paul Ferguson’s Jumpers to Follow Novices’ Chase, where the highly regarded Potters Charm makes his eagerly awaited debut over the larger obstacles.

Potters Charm found life somewhat tough when pitched directly into open company last season, particularly after suffering only a single defeat during an otherwise stellar novice hurdle campaign. However, he managed to get his career firmly back on winning ways last January with a determined victory at Windsor, before following up in style at Grade Two level when claiming the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell.

Connections have consistently harbored high hopes that the physical scope of the horse would ultimately suit chasing even better than hurdles, leading to considerable optimism ahead of his seasonal bow. Given his proven class and the regard in which he is held by his stable, he clearly stands out as the one to beat in this contest.

Among his rivals is Jupiter des Mottes, an unexposed sort who holds a good level of form over hurdles. Notably, he put up a polished performance to win a solid handicap hurdle at Perth back in April. Although he previously made a brief attempt at chasing in November 2025 where he did not immediately take to the fences, he physically profiles as the type of horse who should naturally improve for the switch to a three-mile chasing trip. Now switched to the yard of top trainer Dan Skelton, a much sharper and more assured jumping effort is widely anticipated from him here.

Who’s Glen also lines up with valuable chasing experience under his belt, having run respectably over fences previously. Nick Scholfield’s charge will likely look to use that course experience to his advantage, though his chances will arguably rely on the market leaders making mistakes or failing to take to the obstacles. Meanwhile, Irish pointer Vicomte le Brave adds an extra layer of intrigue as he makes his eagerly anticipated rules debut.

6.00 Newcastle – Promising Starburster makes handicap debut

Shifting the focus to the evening all-weather action at Newcastle, the Follow @attheraces On Instagram Nursery Handicap features the highly promising two-year-old Starburster as she steps into handicap company for the first time.

Trained by Richard Spencer, the filly caught the eye with an encouraging fourth-place finish on her racecourse debut, before showing significant natural improvement for that experience to score a determined victory at Newbury next time out. She displayed a willing and tenacious attitude that day to comfortably beat Bidsta, who has since gone on to frank the form by winning her next two successive starts. Starburster’s unexposed profile, combined with that strong pieces of collateral form, suggests she could prove very competitive running off an opening official handicap mark of 82.

However, she faces several creditable and battle-hardened rivals. Innichen brings plenty of valuable experience from competing in big-meeting nurseries and should relish the opportunity in calmer waters, while Blazing Inferno will be looking to bounce back to form. Blazing Inferno finished last in the prestigious Weatherbys 2-Y-O Stakes at York, though that run can largely be excused given a poor draw in stall 15.

Another intriguing contender who could easily be overlooked in the betting is Siouxperb. After a dazzling debut performance, he understandably disappointed in the high-pressure environment of the Coventry Stakes, before bouncing back to run a very respectable race when finishing a close second to a smart type in Sonic Angel. The subsequent assignment in the Acomb Stakes proved too hot for him to handle, and he then seemingly failed to handle the testing soft conditions at Ayr. Returning to the all-weather surface and dropping two pounds in the handicap gives him every chance to return to his best.

Minzelle completes a fascinating mix at the top end of the market. She has been tried heavily in Listed company following some impressive early-season form. While she has gone off as the betting favorite in her last three starts, she has yet to fully translate that market confidence into on-track performances, leaving her with something to prove.

2.24 Yarmouth – Eye-catching Status Symbol steps up in trip

Over at Yarmouth, the British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes sees the eye-catching Status Symbol take a significant step up in trip as he looks to build on a promising introduction.

The opposition sets a solid and competitive standard, but Status Symbol shaped with immense promise when staying on very nicely into fourth place on his debut despite being sent off as a 50-1 outsider. Trainer Ed Walker’s two-year-olds are traditionally well-known for making plenty of natural improvement from their first to their second starts, and this son of Space Blues looks certain to appreciate stepping up to a 10-furlong trip, especially considering his dam was a proven winner over a mile and a half.

The race features Able Tasman as the only previous winner in the field, having scored after a four-month break on his second career start when defeating the reopposing Deira Moon. Deira Moon ran on strongly that day despite suffering interference and getting severely hampered in the final strides of the race. He subsequently produced the best effort of his career to date when finishing runner-up once again at Goodwood, meaning a seven-pound penalty carried by Able Tasman could potentially bring the pair even closer together this time around.

Quintillion also enters calculations after showing vast improvement on his second start when bumping into the smart and well-regarded Wykehurst Park. Moving up in trip to 10 furlongs should suit his running style, and he is fully expected to put up a bold bid as he attempts to break his maiden tag at the third time of asking.

The race also features newcomers Good Job and Spong Hill making their respective debuts. Of the pair, Good Job holds the most eye-catching pedigree on paper, being a half-brother to the dual Group Two winner Opal Tiara.

Best of the rest

The busy schedule across the three tracks is rounded off by a series of highly competitive supporting races. At Newcastle, the 4.28 fixture sees debut winner Ella Beach face off against Indhaar, while the 5.00 contest offers a trappy fillies’ handicap. Later on the card, the impressive debut winner Great Balls O’Fire aims to bounce back in the 5.30 event, Juan Les Pins and Mae Amor clash in the 6.30, and a competitive 0-75 handicap takes center stage at 7.00.

Over at Worcester, alongside the feature chasing action, the 3.37 card features an informative mares’ handicap chase. The stable of Dan Skelton is well-represented later in the afternoon, with the progressive Kykorock headlining the 4.07 race, and Big Cadillac featuring in the 4.37.

Meanwhile, Yarmouth’s flat card gets underway with an informative novice stakes at 1.54—a race won in 2024 by Sallaal—before a competitive contest at 2.54 brings together Yokohama and Newton Duke in another highlight of the afternoon.
